The challenge

An all-day event at Fort Mason in San Francisco on Monday, October 6, 2025 booked a live patch activation from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. That's eight straight hours of guest time, with setup before the doors and teardown after.

The activation

Merch Troop supplied the patches, 3 by 3 inches, in several designs. Guests picked a design at the station, and the crew applied it live, one patch at a time. The crew was a manager who traveled in and stayed over, plus local staff. Equipment and supplies were shipped ahead of the event, and the manager was the only one on the road.

The result

An eight-hour window is a long day for a live bar, and the crew was built for it: one traveling lead, a local team, and the kit shipped in ahead. Every patch was the same 3-inch square, so the choice guests made was the design.

Questions

Can you build something like this for another brand?

Yes. The exact method changes by artwork, traffic, venue, and guest profile, but the production model is repeatable.

Can this be adapted for a trade show booth?

Yes. Most case-study formats can be scaled into booth, lounge, or sponsor footprint versions.

Can you combine live and pre-produced merch?

Yes. Hybrid activations are often the best way to balance speed, premium options, and budget.
